The Audi Q5 is a popular premium SUV that combines dynamic performances and impressive practicality in a surprisingly fuel-efficient package.

An advanced powertrain

The Audi Q5 is available with a mild hybrid powertrain that adds an electric motor to the standard 2.0L turbocharged engine in order to improve the performances and the fuel economy. The combined power output from this powertrain is set at 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, while the fuel consumption stays low, at only 8.4 L/100 km on the highway. This is made possible by the added torque of the electric motor that boosts the vehicle’s performance at low speeds while reducing the load applied to the gasoline engine during acceleration or hill climbing. Another technology that helps with the efficiency of the Q5 is the standard stop-start system which limits the fuel that is used while the vehicle is stopped by turning off the gasoline engine when waiting at red lights.

Many drive modes to choose from

The Audi Q5 features a drive mode selection system that allows the driver to choose from a number of different parameters that affect the behavior of the engine and the transmission. Choosing Eco mode makes it easier to save fuel by driving in a smoother and more relaxed way. This is achieved by altering the engine management system in order to make the response from the accelerator pedal less aggressive than in normal or sport mode. Doing this encourages smooth and steady accelerations over spirited driving. In addition, the programming of the S Tronic dual-clutch transmission makes it change gears sooner in order to keep the engine speed low and make use of its torque instead of its horsepower, which is an effective way to keep the expected level of performances while improving on the fuel economy.
