The cost of fuel is certainly far from insignificant, and unfortunately rising gas prices aren't on the verge of settling down. The good news is that it is fairly easy to improve the fuel consumption of your Audi vehicle. As a matter of fact, by making small changes, you can significantly reduce fuel consumption and as you will see below, these changes don't require much sacrifice or compromise.
These are little things that you can do that will have incremental impacts on fuel economy, and sometimes the best thing to do is simply to use the vehicle functions that you have in order to improve efficiency. Here are three tips that will help you improve fuel economy on your Audi vehicle.
The first thing that you can do is simply switch your Audi Drive Mode Select system to the most efficient modes. If your Audi has an Efficiency mode, you can adjust various parameters of the vehicle such as the throttle response and the gearbox in order to achieve optimal fuel consumption numbers simply by selecting this mode. You don't have to do anything, the system does it for you and you gain improved efficiency. Even if you don’t have an Efficiency mode, you can improve fuel consumption using Individual or Comfort mode as opposed to Sport mode.
The other thing you can do is lower your speed and drive in a more linear fashion. By being smoother with the accelerator and the brakes, you will immediately notice improved efficiency. For example, driving at 120 km/h on the highway versus 100 km/h increases fuel consumption by 20% while only saving 10 minutes on a 100 km journey. Those numbers are quite surprising but that's what studies have shown.
The last tip we would give you is to remove any unwanted accessories from your vehicle. We know that it can be annoying to take the roof box off the top of your Audi, but roof boxes have been shown to increase fuel consumption by 15%. Other accessories such as a trailer hitch can increase weight, and you also want to have a look at your tires and make sure they are properly inflated. As we said earlier, these are all small changes, but they can have a direct impact on the fuel economy of your vehicle.
